Elite Eight Semi Finals

It will be a very similar story in the Men’s Elite Eight division, with the same four teams – the New South Wales Mets, New South Wales Country Mavericks, New South Wales Scorpions and Queensland Pride battling it out in the semi finals for the inaugural Elite Eight honours.

Prior to this, rounds six and seven of the Elite Eight series were played at Port Macquarie Regional Sports Stadium on Friday, and despite some afternoon showers, the weather failed to dampen anyone’s spirits with so much on the line on day three.

Women’s Elite Eight

The New South Wales Mets continued their impressive tournament so far on day three of the Elite Eight Women’s division, to finish the round games unbeaten. The Queensland Pride and the New South Wales Country Mavericks qualified for semi finals in second and third place respectively, with the New South Wales Scorpions waiting until their final game to sneak into the top four.

Earlier, the Queensland Pride continued its impressive series so far, with a 9-2 win over the New South Wales Rebels in round six, while the New South Wales Mets kept their undefeated streak alive with a 6-4 win over the Queensland Fire. The New South Wales Mavericks edged out the Alliance, 5-4, to secure them a place in the semi finals. The New South Wales Scorpions got their second win of the series on day three, with a 6-4 win over the Queensland Spirit.

The New South Wales Mets secured the top spot on the ladder for the series following their round seven 7-4 win against the New South Wales Country Mavericks. The Queensland Pride had a two touchdown win over the Queensland Fire to finish in second place. The Alliance were 5-2 winners over the Spirit, while the New South Wales Scorpions’ last game 7-6 win over the New South Wales Rebels gave them a semi finals berth.

The New South Wales Mets will take on the New South Wales Scorpions in their semi final, while the Queensland Pride will meet the New South Wales Country Mavericks in the other semi final, both being played at 11.40am.

Men’s Elite Eight

With plenty to play for, the New South Wales Rebels and Queensland Pride went into their round six encounter both desperate for a win, however nothing could separate the sides at full time, with the game ending at seven-all. The New South Wales Mavericks and New South Wales Mets kept their winning ways alive in round six, with wins over the Alliance and Queensland Fire respectively. The New South Wales Scorpions also were winners in round six, defeating the Queensland Spirit 8-6.

Searching for their first win in round seven, the Queensland Spirit were desperate for a win in their final game and were able to do that, defeating the Alliance 8-5. In a top of the table clash, the New South Wales Mets and the New South Wales Mavericks battled it out on the stadium field, and the encounter didn’t disappoint, with the Mets running out eventual winners 4-2. The New South Wales Rebels had plenty to play for when they met the New South Wales Scorpions in their round seven encounter, with the team hopeful of making it into a finals position. The Rebels ended up winning 6-3, but it wasn’t enough for them to progress through. In a similar story, the Queensland Pride and Queensland Fire had plenty on the line, with the Pride’s 7-6 win enough to put them into the finals in fourth spot.

The New South Wales Mavericks will meet the New South Wales Scorpions in one of the semi finals, with the New South Wales Mets and Queensland Pride to contest the other semi final, with both games to be played at 12.35pm.
